Yesterday, the whole Wankhede stadium lit up for one second as Umran Malik ripped through the batting line-up of Gujrat Titans with his sheer pace. In this year’s IPL, this Jammu Boy’s journey has been unreal so far. Initially, when Sunrisers Hyderabad retained this young gun over some big names like Rashid Khan, questions were asked. The franchise started this year’s IPL on a bad note by losing the first two matches. Umran’s form was not also up-to-the mark in those matches as he was not economical and not getting a lot of wickets. However, he has turned the tide completely in the last 4 matches as he has been bowling under 6.00 economy. His blistering form has played a vital role as Sunrisers Hyderabad is now sitting at the third spot comfortably with 10 points in 8 matches.

Umran has picked up 15 wickets till now in this year’s IPL in 8 matches at an average of 15.93. He is now second on the purple cap holder list, just behind Yuzvendra Chahal’s 18 wickets. Sheer pace has always been the major factor for him as 91% of his deliveries (IPL 2022) have been over 140 KPH. Yesterday, he scalped 5 wickets for 25 runs only in his 4 overs quota. He disturbed the furniture of Wriddhiman Saha with a scorching Yorker at a pace of 153 km/h. Though his destructive effort went in vain as the duo of Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia managed to take Gujrat home safely. Under the Guidance of a legend like Dale Steyn, Umran has become an exciting prospect for the future of Indian cricket. Dale Steyn has added that this young boy reminds him of his early days and he has already semi-cemented his place for the future Indian Side.
