The whole of India was in shock as the Women in Blue, faced an exit from this year’s World Cup as South Africa Women defeated them by 3 Wickets in a thrilling match. Team India was in a good space before this encounter as they needed to win only this match to secure their place in the top 4. But, the curtains came down tragically despite showing a full fight.

The Women in Blue started the match beautifully as both the openers (Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma) scored the fifties. Veteran Captain Mithali Raj also scored 68 runs at a better strike rate of 80.95 while Harmanpreet Kaur also contributed with a crucial 48 runs in 57 balls. Team India posted a competitive total of 274 runs at the cost of 7 wickets. In reply, the South African Women faced an early jolt but their middle order played sensibly. The equation came down to 7 runs needed from 6 balls. Deepti Sharma was given the responsibility to defend those runs but then, the unthinkable happened. On the second last ball of that over, Deepti Sharma overstepped and that cost India the wicket of Du Preez. A thrilling end to the match and the South African Women knocked out the blue Tigresses.
