After a disappointing series lost against New Zealand at their home, the Indian Women’s Team made a strong start to their World Cup Campaign by defeating the arch-rival Pakistan, today. Women in blue were under quite a pressure as their preparation coming to this mega event was not as planned as they have wished for. However, they came up with a win by a huge margin of 107 runs. Team India Captain, Mithali Raj won the toss and opted for batting. But, Team India got a setback as Shafali Verma went for a duck. Then, after a steady partnership (92 Runs) between Smriti Mandhana (52 Runs off 75 Balls) and Deepti Sharma (40 Runs off 57 Balls), a mini-collapse happened.

Team India was in deep trouble as they were 114-6 in 33.1 Overs. Pakistan was in full control but they failed to seize that momentum courtesy of the gutsy partnership of 122 Runs between Sneh Rana (53* Runs off 48 Balls) and Pooja Vastrakar (67 Runs off 59 Balls). Team India ended their innings with a score of 244 Runs by losing 7 wickets. Pakistan was looking to chase this target but the Indian Bowling was top-notch. They managed to score 137 runs only in 43 overs. Rajeshwari Gayakwad was the star of the show as she took 4 crucial wickets by conceding only 31 runs in her 10-over spell. Pooja Vastrakar was adjusted as the Player of the Match for her Match-saving innings.

This win extended Team India’s unbeaten streak (11* - 0) against Pakistan in the 50-Over Format. This victory will be a big boost for the Women in Blue and hopefully, it may help them to have a great run in this tournament.
