A LEGEND’S DEMISE: THE KING OF SPIN LEFT US ALL SHOCKED AT THE AGE OF 52

March 2022 was destined to be known for some happy cricketing moments like Virat Kohli’s 100th Test and the first Test match for Team Australia in Pakistan after 24 years. However, the day has ended with the shocking news that Shane Warne, the King of Spin, left all of us at the age of 52. He was found in an unresponsive manner in his villa in Thailand and a heart attack is being the suspected reason behind it. It was a sudden shock for all the global cricket fraternity as no one could believe that it can happen. He was a legend and probably, the greatest spinner ever played this beautiful game. He gave his 21 years to this game and achieved many untouchable feats. He played 145 Test Matches and claimed 708 wickets (2nd Highest ever) at an economy of 2.65. In the 50-Over Format, he played 194 matches and claimed 293 wickets at an economy of 4.25.

He was an essential member of Australia’s Famous World Cup win in 1999 and who can forget those typical Ashes Moments! The Ball of the Century to Mike Gatting was some magic at Old Trafford in Manchester. He also won the inaugural IPL Edition with Rajasthan Royals as the leader of the camp. Speaking to the Australian Media Outlet Fox Sports, Shane Warne’s Management has issued a statement that:

“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course”. All cricket players have also expressed their views through social media platforms. Indian Legend Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has tweeted:

“Shocked, stunned & miserable…Will miss you Warnie. There was never a dull moment with you around, on or off the field. Will always treasure our on field duels & off field banter. You always had a special place for India & Indians had a special place for you.

Gone too young!”
