The magical run of Villareal in this year’s UEFA Champions League came to an end after they got beaten by the Merseyside Reds 5-2 on aggregate over two legs. The La Liga side was already on the back foot as they were trailing by 2 goals to nil to Liverpool from the first leg in Anfield. However, they managed to start the second leg at home positively by scoring two goals in the first half.

Etienne Capoue, the Villareal midfielder was the star of that half as he bagged two assists. Both Boulaye Dia and Francis Coquelin scored those crucial goals in front of their home supporters. Liverpool fans were in total disarray after they conceded and that started to create some doubts regarding their run for a quadruple season. But, they made the game looks like a game of two different halves! Fabinho (at the 62nd-minute mark), Luis Diaz (at the 67th-minute mark) and Sadio Mane (at the 74th-minute mark) came to the party within a 12-minute duration and gave Liverpool the lead again on the night. Luis Diaz has been a great signing for the Reds since he joined them from Porto. After that, Liverpool was leading 5-2 on aggregate and they managed to keep that scoreline till the full-time whistle was blown. The magical run of Unai Emery’s men came to an end though, they should be proud of their efforts.

On the other hand, Klopp’s men march on in their pursuit of quadruple by qualifying for the 3rd UCL final in the last five years. Having already won the Carabao Cup, they are now in the final of both the FA Cup and UCL. They are also in the race for the Premier League with Manchester City. No English Clubs have managed to with all these four silverwares together till now. But, now it will be within their sight as they await either Real Madrid or Manchester City to face in Stade de France on 29th May. What a cracker of a match is waiting for us…
