The Yellow army of Germany got shocked as they suffered a 4-2 loss in their home ground by the Scottish Champions, Rangers. It was expected that Dortmund will find it more comfortable against the so-called underdogs, Rangers. However, it never looked like that as the Rangers just stormed into the first half of the match. The Scottish Champions were leading by 3-0 after 49 minutes. The situation became more miserable as Dortmund conceded an own goal on the 54th minute mark, thanks to the courtesy of Dan-Axel Zagadou (CB). Dortmund lacked urgency throughout the match. But, they managed to score atleast two goals to generate a little hope of a comeback in the next week's encounter at Glasgow, Scotland.

The Dortmund Boss, Marco Rose showed concern about his team’s attacking and defensive approaches after this shocking defeat. He claimed that it will be a hard task for them to overturn this tie into their favour in Scotland. On the other hand, Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst praised his team’s performance. He also stated that they need to be more careful in their home to make progress into the next round. Mats Hummels was also devastated after one of the worst defeats in the European competition.
